Bullying

I woke up with the brilliant news that Obama had been re-elected and had his four more years. This put me in a fabulous mood and I was up and ready to start the day. It's interesting how quickly a persons mood can change though.

It only took one look for my mood to turn upside down. So here goes my mini discussion on bullying.
I will never understand why people think it is okay to make another human being feel inadequate, small, stupid, ugly or any other number of horrible things. What gives a person this right? What makes them feel it is okay to say or do foul things to another person? Because as far as I am concerned nobody has that right!
What makes you feel as though it is okay to snigger at me whilst I put my ideas forward? Or to assume you will not like what I am saying when if you actually listened I am agreeing with the point you just made.

It is not okay to make others feel bad and it needs to stop! I have dealt with incidents of bullying my whole life and have heard a wide variety of shocking statements. "They deserved to be called stupid" "They 'asked' for it" "It's not really bullying, it's only name-calling". Take a moment and consider how much the comment you just made, the face you just pulled or the laugh you just had with your friends may have hurt that individual. Those words or actions will swirl around that persons brain over and over making them feel worthless whilst you may go about your day none the wiser.

Take a moment to think about how others feel. I know there are people who probably do not care about the effect their actions have. I hope that the majority do and everyday I try to make that much more effort to appreciate the true friends I have in my life.

If you are being bullied, you are not alone and there is help available. You can get through it and things will become easier. Although reading these words will not instantly solve the problem I hope they give you a small bit of hope. Do not suffer alone, stand up speak out and get the help and support you need and deserve.

To end on a positive today showed me how lucky I am to have true friends; people with beautiful souls who would never wish harm on others. Take time to hug a friend or tell a loved one how much they mean to you today. Make the positives outweigh any negatives.

ps. GObama! Lets make the next 4 years count!

  1. Good post. I don't understand the mentality of those who get their kicks from bullying others and/or kicking them while they're down. I feel bad if I've upset somebody unintentionally, so I'd hate to deliberately hurt someone!

It's a shame your euphoria from the morning was soured by bullying. :(
